The Different Do’s and Don’ts for your Spa Cover
After you have purchased your hot tub or spa covers, you just simply need to learn the proper maintenance tips in order to preserve the life of the covers for the longest time. Here are some tips on what you should do and avoid in taking take of any brand of spa cover, including Sundance spa covers.
Things to Avoid to Prevent Damage
1. In order to prevent the cover from breaking easily, do not allow sitting, walking, standing or placing heavy objects on top of the cover. Don’t allow children or pets to stay on top of the cover.
2. Avoid scratching and using abrasive materials when cleaning the cover. This can damage the finish of the spa cover and therefore, dirt will easily attach to it if it has a rough surface.
3. Never expose your Sundance hot tub cover to extreme heat and cold weather conditions. This are temperatures around negative 20°F or higher than 150°F.
4. Avoid exposing your spa cover to harsh chemicals such as those used for treating the water on your tub. When adding chemicals to the water, always remember to remove the cover. If these chemicals come into contact with the cover, this will result to chemical burns and extreme discoloration.
5. Avoid washing the cover with harsh detergents including those which have suds that accumulate on top of the cover. When using laundry powder detergent, rinse well with water after each washing.
Things to Do to Care for your Spa Cover
1. Keep the cover clean and dirt free at all times. Never allow the accumulation of debris such as fallen leaves, bird droppings and other dirt particles on top of the cover. The purpose of this is to avoid color leaching and at the same time prevent the cover from becoming brittle.
2. Replace foam inserts immediately when they become cracked, loaded with mold or mildew, or damaged. This is to prevent damage to reach the cover itself.
3. For outdoor hot tubs located in windy areas, you may need to purchase an additional wind-strap tie-down.
It is important to understand the composition of a hot tub cover. The material typically used in making these is made from a fabric that has an outer layer of PVC or vinyl material. At the time that the cover is being manufactured it has a special topcoat applied which contains a special coating that helps keep it looking attractive for a long time.
