Putting An End To Dry Mouth

5 Nov 2010

Your ability to put an end to dry mouth depends on why you have dry mouth in the first place.  You can put an end to dry mouth but you can’t always do it in the same way.  The reason why you have dry mouth will decide how much work you have to put into ending it.

Short Term Solutions And Long Term Solutions

There are short term solutions and long term solutions when it comes to ending dry mouth.  You will always have access to short term solutions but you will not always be able to find long term solutions.  For a lasting solution to dry mouth, you need to have a case of dry mouth that is being caused by something that you can get rid of.

For example, if your dry mouth is being caused by a medication you are taking then you can stop taking that medication if your doctor allows it and this case of dry mouth will be gone for good.  However, if your dry mouth symptoms are being caused by a more enduring condition like diabetes, then you may have to work to alleviate your dry mouth symptoms on a daily basis.

Long Term Relief

Long term relief is easy.  If you discover what is drying out your mouth and you can stop it, then you will have long term relief.  Many cases of dry mouth fall into this category.

Short Term Relief

Short term relief isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  It just means that you will need to keep working on a regular basis to make sure that your mouth does not dry out.  There are several things that you can do to enjoy short term relief and by combining these dryness relievers, you can keep your mouth moist.

Begin by drinking water regularly.  This will keep the moisture in your body and help to deposit it right into your mouth where it is most needed.  Avoid alcoholic beverages and tobacco products as they will just dry your mouth out even more.

Also, practice good dental hygiene.  A healthy mouth is good in general and is more likely to be able to produce sufficient moisture.  You can use the OraMD 4-Step Oral Hygiene Program to facilitate total mouth health.  Through a system of brushing, flossing, gargling, and topical application you will help to keep your mouth healthy and to maintain a mouth with the right amount of moisture.
